Event Navigation

What is the most eaten food in the world?

You may have guessed McDonald’s, but the answer is actually Rice! To a lot of Americans, rice comes as a side with their Chinese Take out, but rice is actually a global pillar of tradition. Nearly all cultures have rice dishes, and over 100 million people globally rely on rice has their daily food staple. Rice originated in China, and then began being farmed in India in 6000BC. Today, these two countries are still our largest producers, making ninety percent of the world’s rice. There are over 40,000 varieties of rice being cultivated today all over the world, and over 400 million tons are consumed globally every year. That’s a lot of sushi rolls! We’ll be representing some of the most famous rice dishes in this class! We’ll make dishes such as: Chorizo and Mussel Paella, Lemon and Parmesan Risotto, Sushi, Vegetable Fried Rice, Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo, Chicken Biryani, Spicy Jollof Rice. If you’ve never heard of these, or have no clue what country they come from, get in here for some serious education! Rice is a global staple, it’s time to make it a staple in your home, too!

Class ending times may vary. Please wear closed-toed shoes and wear your hair up off your shoulders.  Bring your favorite knife and a beverage to drink if you wish. You can bring adult beverages if you’d like. We will provide knives if you do not have them.  We will also provide aprons. We will have filtered water to drink.
