Funky, Fresh and Fermented

May 28 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

“Fermented.” We get it, the term does not make food sound delicious. We would all rather hear a term like “fried” used to describe our food! However, the fact is that Americans do not get enough fermented foods in their diet, which has helped lead to poor gut health in our country. Fermented foods are full of good bacteria that helps us digest food and keep toxins out of our gut. Recent studies have shown a link to all kinds of health issues starting in the gut-from obesity to neurodegenerative disorders. Looks like you truly are what you eat! In this class, we’ll talk extensively about fermented foods, and ways to sneak them into your diet. We’ll make delicious dishes with fermented food such as: Korean Tacos with quick Kimchi, Schnitzel with Sauerkraut, Roasted Cauliflower Miso Soup, Vietnamese Spring Rolls with Spicy Yogurt Dipping Sauce, Teriyaki Tempeh and Broccoli, Sourdough Avocado Toast, Breakfast Kefir Bowls with Coconut Granola, a Probiotic Ice Cream for dessert, and even a Kombucha Tasting! We’ll then talk about the process of canning fermented foods properly (for things like pickles) so that you can have fermented food at your fingertips all the time! These dishes may sound a little out there, but we promise the punch of flavor is funky and delicious!  You even get to take one of your creations home with you!

Class ending times may vary. Please wear closed-toed shoes and wear your hair up off your shoulders.  Bring your favorite knife and a beverage to drink if you wish. You can bring adult beverages if you’d like. We will provide knives if you do not have them.  We will also provide aprons. We will have filtered water to drink.
